Omnivore - Chef Ryan Smith and Team Octopus Bar do a dinner

“Since we’ve never done a dinner with just Ryan before, we really want to do some crazy shit.”

This Sunday, Octopus Bar’s Angus Brown, Nhan Le, and executive chef Duane Kulers will host a nine-course feast, dubbed Starving Man’s Banquet, featuring guest chef Ryan Smith. The dinner is a nod to Brown and Le’s appreciation for the inspiring impact Smith’s recent efforts, such as his work with The Giving Kitchen, have had on the Atlanta food scene.

“We all love Smith and wanted to do the dinner to help hold him over until his next adventure, Staplehouse, begins,” Brown says.

Set for 10 p.m. on February 23, the dinner will open with a cocktail reception studded with raw seafood towers piled with lobster, shrimp, oysters, mussels, and razor clams.

The first course will be a threefold collaboration between Smith, Brown, and Kulers: one bite from each chef. Middle courses will range from “straight-up old-school Italian” to veal tongue to sea urchin - apparently no holds barred with this menu. Smith will prepare the final dinner course solo before Empire State South’s Assistant Pastry Chef Brooke Lenderman finishes with dessert.

Tickets are $150 apiece. Save yourself a seat through Brown Paper Tickets.
