This is the first food-stall-guest-cheffing our ears have heard. On Sat., Jan. 23 chef Todd Ginsberg welcomes renowned chef Avivit Priel Avichai to cook with him at Yalla in Krog Street Market. She will be serving tapas-size dishes ideal for sharing.

Avichai is the chef/owner of Ozeria and the Cookbook Café in Tel Aviv. Her cuisine, utilizing Greek/Mediterranean ingredients, incorporates flavors and influences from Spain to Gaza. Before opening her restaurants she was the executive chef of Spanish/Latin American tapas restaurants (Tapeo, Winona).

Ginsberg traveled to Israel for research before opening Yalla. “I am really excited to work with Avivit and see Israeli influence in her cooking," Ginsberg tells CL. "I truly miss my time there, so any culture or style of Levantine that I can brush up on will always be welcome in my kitchen.”

That Levantine cuisine he speaks of is what is on the menu at Yalla — meze like hummus, shawarma, tahini, tabouleh, and falafel inspired by the open-aired markets Ginsberg visited in Israel. The modern Middle Eastern food stall opened in Krog Street Market a little over a year ago and the lines have remained steady since its launch.

A scaled down version of the regular menu will also be available during Avichai’s visit from 11:30 a.m to 1:30 p.m. at Inman Park’s Krog Street Market. For more info: yallaatl.com.
