SEE HOW WE ARE: X is Exene Cervenka (clockwise from left), Billy Zoom, John Doe, and D.J. Bonebrake

X is truly one of the greatest living, breathing American rock ‘n’ roll bands on the road, playing shows from coast to coast. Don’t even try to deny it. The group was born of Los Angeles’ original wave of circa ’77 punk rock, and seasoned by the American landscape of the Reagan era. Over the decades X’s founding members, John Doe, Billy Zoom, Exene Cervenka, and D.J. Bonebrake, have endured nearly everything that four people can live through, only to emerge more resilient, adding depth to an already note-perfect body of songs. Having recently celebrated their 40-year anniversary, all four original members are on the road again, playing the hits. “Your Phone Is Off the Hook, But You’re Not,” “Johnny Hit and Run Pauline,” “Adult Books,” “Los Angeles,” and more from throughout the group’s career sound just as timeless and poignant today as the day they were first performed.
