The TAV facility is bordered to the west by Interstate 75, to the south and east by commercial and industrial property, and to the north by residential areas and the Crawford W. Long Middle School. An unnamed tributary to the South River flows along the Facility’s northern border.
A metal processing facility in Atlanta was placed under an emergency order on Monday by the Environmental Protection Agency for emitting hazardous waste that could imperil the public and the environment. Citing an “imminent and substantial endangerment,” the EPA order requires the TAV Holdings plant to desist from further toxic releases and enclose all materials on the site. The facility is adjacent to the Crawford W. Long Middle School in the Glenrose Heights neighborhood of south Atlanta. Weekly progress updates from plant management to the EPA are also mandated. “This order will help to ensure the health and safety of the local community surrounding this facility and of the children attending the school nearby,” EPA administrator Daniel Blackman said in a press release. ajc.com
