Former state representative Vernon Jones has dropped out of the race for governor of Georgia and will instead pursue a bid for the U.S. Congress. “After much prayer and consideration I have decided that I can best serve the people of Georgia in the Congress of the United States,” Jones wrote on Twitter. “I believe that strong conservative voices need to be heard as we lead America into the future.” The ex-Democrat is endorsing David Perdue in his run for the governorship. During his lengthy political career, Jones, 61, has been investigated for adverse behavior towards women, inflated security expenses, and creating a hostile work environment. thehill.com
