Atlanta singer and songwriter Darrell Kelley, who uses his music to protest brutality against Blacks, is marching this weekend in support of shooting victim James Lowery. The rally is in Titusville, Florida, where 40-year-old Lowery was killed in December by police officers responding to a domestic disturbance call. It’s the latest action by Kelley, whose songs have covered the travails of Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd, and others with titles such as “Take Your Knees Off Our Necks,” “Didn’t Have To Kill Him,” “Systemic Racism,” and “Believe In Something.” Kelley says his goal is to prevent police brutality and racism through socially conscious music addressing the continued injustices in the Black community. "I am very concerned that too many of our supposed national leaders are not as impactful or relevant as they should be and I believe using music to affect positive change, is as effective in today's society, as it has been historically," he said. prnewswire.com
