Atlanta now has the largest metropolitan area in the Southeastern part of the country, according to population estimates by the United States Census Bureau. Miami held that distinction previously but its numbers plummeted amid pandemic-induced disruptions in 2021, per data released last week. Metropolitan Atlanta added 42,904 new residents last year, the sixth largest gain of any U.S. city for the period, and the official tally is now 6,144,050. urbanize.city
