NEWS BRIEF: Justice Clarence Thomas must recuse himself, Democrats say
Thomas’s wife, Ginni, had previously sent text messages supporting the insurrection
Georgia Rep. Hank Johnson and 23 other congressional Democrats are demanding that Justice Clarence Thomas recuse himself from cases involving the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. This follows the revelation of text messages sent by his wife, Ginni, to the Trump White House appearing to support the insurrection.
In a letter to Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts, the two-dozen Democrats said the texts “raise serious questions about Justice Thomas’s participation in cases before the Supreme Court involving the 2020 election and the January 6th insurrection.”
Thomas, a Georgia native, was the only justice on the bench who resisted a ruling allowing the Jan. 6 committee access to Donald Trump’s White House records, nor did he disclose his wife’s activism on the issue. georgiarecorder.com
