NEWS BRIEF: Young Atlanta bassist gets to play at Carnegie Hall
Tendekai Mawokomatanda selected through the NYO2 program
Carnegie Hall in New York has accepted a 17-year-old musician from Atlanta into its NYO2 program. Tendekai Mawokomatanda, a principal bass, will perform at the prestigious venue on August 1 after completing a month-long residency at the State University of New York at Purchase.
NYO2 is a national program that recruits orchestral musicians between the ages of 14 and 17 from “communities underrepresented in classical music.”
“If you were selected for NYO2, it means that you are one of the best young musicians in the country and you get to show off your skills with world renowned conductors. So it’s truly an honor to be selected for this program,” Mawokomatanda said. theatlantavoice.com
