Atlanta now has a new British consul general to replace self-proclaimed sports fanatic Andrew Staunton, who has concluded his four-year tenure. A former envoy to North Macedonia, Rachel Galloway has been part of Britain’s diplomatic corps for more than 20 years and has held various roles in Brussels, Darfur, Afghanistan and Washington D.C.

According to Georgia Tech, the role of the Atlanta-based consul general is to serve as the senior UK government representative in the Southeast United States responsible for relations with the states of Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Mississippi and Alabama, while promoting UK-US trade and investment, supporting British nationals, conducting public diplomacy on key issues and building scientific and research co-operation.
