NEWS BRIEF: Reid’s Body Shop to make way for apartment complex

15% of the units in ‘The Reid’ will be marked as affordable housing

In honor of the body shop, the complex is to be dubbed, "The Reid"

Reid’s Body Shop, a longtime institution on Memorial Drive near the Eastside Trail and the HomeGrown diner, will be demolished to make way for The Reid, a 186-unit apartment complex, Toro Development Company announced this week. The 1.64-acre structure will feature studios, one- and two-bedroom apartments, as well as a rooftop pool, according to Atlanta Intown. Toro officials stipulated 15 percent of the units will be marked as affordable housing at 80 percent area median income (AMI).

“We were honored to learn the project would be called ‘The Reid,’” said shop owner Robert Reid. “Our family has been an active part of the community for a long time, and we are glad the new owners care about the history of the property.” Details: reporternewspapers.net
