Happy Birthday Rosalynn!
Rosalynn Carter turned 95 on Thursday and marked the occasion by focusing on protecting endangered monarch butterflies, WABE reports. The former First Lady and her husband, former president Jimmy Carter, made a rare public appearance over the weekend for the unveiling of a new sculpture at the Rosalynn Carter Butterfly Trail in Plains, created to draw attention to the threatened moth — a crucial element in the pollination process of flowering plants. At the event, the former first lady flipped a switch to illuminate the artwork at nightfall. The trail is using Carter’s birthday to promote an annual statewide count of butterflies known as the Great Georgia Pollinator Census. Details: wabe.org
