Is it illegal to feed the homeless?

Employees of a Popeyes fast food joint in Atlanta called the police after a drive-through customer attempted to buy food for a homeless man, according to news reports. Jo Ortega, a student at Georgia State University, said she ordered the hungry man some chicken, but servers at the Ponce de Leon Avenue location refused to comply. “No ma’am, you can’t do it,” an employee told her. “I could (sic) care less about you recording me, baby,” another said before closing the window, as seen in a TikTok post that went viral.

Officers arriving at the scene thanked Ortega for the gesture while the caller was nowhere to be found. The homeless man, identified as Jazz, was given free food by the general manager. Popeyes said in a statement the company is “retraining to help navigate a range of guest interactions, such as the situation highlighted in the video.” Details: nypost.com
