NEWS BRIEF: Hyundai breaks ground on massive EV plant in Georgia
‘Metaplant will construct up to six models’
A factory costing $5.54 billion that will manufacture electric cars and batteries for Hyundai Motor Group broke ground Tuesday on 2,800 acres northwest of Savannah, Automotive News reports. The Metaplant will construct up to six models with the capacity to produce up to half a million vehicles per year for the Hyundai, Kia and Genesis brands.
“We are making the current investment to get to 300,000 vehicles in phase one, and then 500,000,” Jose Munoz, the firm’s global chief operating officer, told media reps gathered on the plot of land. Construction is expected soon with the target date to start production in January of 2025, he said. Details: autonews.com
