Frame by Frame: The Art of Stop-Motion Animation, Center for Puppetry Arts — It’s visual storytelling at its most charming. Stop-motion animation as an artform is presented here in all its glory, exploring the artistry and innovation behind the singular craft through more than 80 original puppets, sets, artifacts and productions. Among the more recognizable titles are ‘Adventure Time,’ ‘Corpse Bride,’ ‘Frankenweenie,’ ‘Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio,’ and ‘James & the Giant Peach.’ The exhibition features works on loan from the Walt Disney Archives, Warner Bros., Netflix and other prominent studios, as well as private collections. Eminent artists from across the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom are represented. “Stop-motion animation exists at the intersection of puppetry, sculpture, filmmaking, and performance,” says curator, educator and animator Emily D. Myers. “This exhibition celebrates not only the final films audiences know and love, but also the extraordinary handmade artistry behind every frame.” — Kevin C. Madigan
