LITTLE 5 POINTS: It’s an all-day long player

From humble beginnings in Florida, to opening a small shop tucked away on Euclid Avenue, to moving to Moreland Avenue and then back to the other side of Euclid Avenue, it’s been 35 years since Eric Levin opened the doors of Criminal Records.

To celebrate, Criminal; Records takes over the center of Little Five Points with three stages providing live music, and the introduction of Long Player, a new beer from Creature Comforts, featuring artwork from the ever-popular artist R. Land, who has also created the posters, logos, and other images “commemorating 35 years ‘Upstairs at Eric’s & Madonna’s.’ for the anniversary event. Long Player, a wheated pale ale with orange, at 5.3% ABV, will be available in local bars, including L5P stalwarts the Porter, Euclid Avenue Yacht Club and El Myr, as well as at many other bars, restaurants and package stores.

Bellow's Film Lab on Euclid Avenue will host a gallery show featuring the work of Robin Henson, chronicling the journey of owner Levin, who followed Robin and her husband Curtis up from Florida.

This Saturday,Criminal Records celebrates the store’s founding 35 years ago by then-20-year-old Eric Levin with an all-day live music fest, plus in-store specials, merch and whatnot.

Located on Euclid Avenue, right around the corner from the other guys’ shop, which marked a half-century of record retailing a few weeks ago, Criminal Records stands as a testament to the power of music and the savvy business acumen of the enterprise’s owner, who is also one of the co-founders of Record Store Day.

One of the coolest aspects of this momentous occasion is the release by event-sponsor Creature Comforts Brewing Co. of a new brew, “Long Player,” with artwork by R. Land, an Atlanta arts institution unto himself. “LP” will be served at joints such as the Porter, Euclid Avenue Yacht Club and Elmyr, and generally available at bars, restaurants and package stores around town.
