Hummingbird Banding
From the venue:
A truly one-of-a-kind experience, Julia Elliott (AKA The Hummingbird Whisperer) from Kennesaw’s own Bird Watcher Supply Company will be banding hummingbirds to gain vital information about bird history, especially migratory details and the relative abundance of a given bird species from year to year. When a bird is banded, the bander collects important data about the bird’s age, sex, condition, and plumage characteristics as well.
Julia Elliott received her federal Master Permit to band hummingbirds in 2010. She is one of about 150 persons from across the United States and Canada authorized to band these tiny birds. Elliott will use three trainer traps set in the perennial border to capture the ruby-throated hummingbirds that populate this area.
Guests will enjoy live demonstrations, crafts, games, and a truly memorable experience with these amazing creatures!
