AJFF Selects: ‘The Lavender Scare’

Thursday September 14, 2017 07:00 PM EDT
Cost: $15-$30

From the venue:

The Lavender Scare details a hidden battle during Cold War and its impact on gay people in the United States. As a result of McCarthyism, President Eisenhower signed a law banning gays and lesbians from government work in the name of national security, leading to systemic blackmail, mass firings and FBI investigations. In the film, Jewish astronomer Dr. Franklin Kameny, who fought back in court at the time, and others affected by the Lavender Scare tell their stories.
