It’s safe to say that those who heard Blonde Redhead’s 1995 debut would not recognize the band now, at least based on its new album. The members haven’t changed, but the edgy abrasive, Sonic Youth-styled guitars have been replaced by shiny syths, a trade-off that loses much of the group’s once potent attack and replaces it with slick, if not terribly commercial, dreamy atmospherics.
