Cost: $32-$38
From the venue:
Asleep at the Wheel began in 1970 with leader Ray Benson in the tiny town of Paw Paw, W.Va. Nearly five decades and nine Grammy awards later, the country music picker outfit still plays the intimate listening rooms where the group built its loyal fan base. Asleep at the Wheel pays respect to its roots in the studio, too: This year’s Still the King: Celebrating the Music of Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys covers the “King of Western Swing†with the help of collaborations such as Willie Nelson, the Avett Brothers, and others. The group’s live show, much like recent studio work, is a nod to the music’s past with one foot planted firmly in its present.
