Montreal’s Atsuko Chiba isn’t as concerned with making intensely memorable songs as it is with developing an aesthetic. The group builds from a basic post-rock template, with hypnotic, synth-driven passages that lend an air of heady psych-chill, only introducing vocals when necessary. The focus lies mainly on the showmanship of the players here, which helps flesh out the progressive/math element — complete with jazzy flourishes. A series of live sessions promise a visual-heavy live show, too. Capillaries, Hallowed, and Pop Weirdos also play.
