Over the years, Steve Earle has explored several musical genres, and this time around he is diving headfirst into the blues. His recent album, Terraplane, is another fine collection of great songs showcasing his respect for tradition in his own way. His concerts are always intriguing, and when he lets the Dukes cut loose, it gets loud and rowdy. But there is also a softer side, as his ballads touch the heart, whether focusing on lost love or difficult social issues. Even in his diversity, Earle is consistent.
