Cost: $10
From the venue:
Since 2004, Sopo Bicycle Co-op has helped countless students, homeless people, and budding bicyclists inflate tires, oil gears, and replace brake pads. In return it’s asked only for donations when possible and, if time allows, volunteers. Now it’s time to give back to the DIY nonprofit that has done so much with so little. On Sat., March 8, Sopo will host Broken Hearts and Bicycle Parts, the 10th annual fundraiser and celebration of all things two wheels that helps the beloved organization help people pedal around the city. In contrast to past years’ events that lasted the entire weekend, organizers this go-round have promised a stripped-down soiree starting at 4 p.m. with a “brutal urban cyclocross race†through vibrant Midtown and hill-acious Ansley Park. A benefit show at the Drunken Unicorn follows at 9 p.m., featuring Surrogates, the Sneaky Hand, Doesin, and the Greens. Between band sets, strong-hearted men and women can compete for prizes in 1,000-meter sprints on stationary bikes. Your ticker will thank you. $10 race entry fee. $10-$15 benefit concert admission.
