Dick Dale, Andrew & the Disapyramids

Sunday May 4, 2014 08:00 PM EDT
Cost: $25

From the venue:

Royalty is a rare thing in the 21st century. Nobody ever crowned Dick Dale “the King of Surf Rock Guitar” — he claimed the title for himself and no one has disputed it yet. His moment of greatest pop culture visibility came with the swift jab of tremolo picking on his instrumental “Misirlou,” featured prominently in Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction. But rock ’n’ roll owes him an enormous debt as a driving force behind the genre’s technology. According to legend, Leo Fender created the first 100-watt amp to accommodate Dale’s demands for ever-greater volume. He’s still surfing the open road, bringing his upside-down Fender Strat to gun down potential challengers to the throne.
