Louisville, Ky.’s Young Widows has long been one of the most adventurous heavy bands around, fearlessly exploring the shadowy fringes of noise-rock, hardcore, and art-metal on its first three albums. With its fourth release, the excellent Easy Pain, the group adds a dark and suffocating take on post-punk to its growing empire, tossing Evan Patterson’s swaggering, bluesy snarl down a silo full of sludge and scuzzy grooves. Being bludgeoned never felt so good! And if that’s not enough head trauma for you, thunderous freaks Helms Alee and ATL’s HAWKS join the bill on Sat., May 24.
