From the venue:

Affectionately known as “A.D.”,Rev. King was a true soldier of great transformation through nonviolent social change, commitment to serve by leading the poor people’s campaign and dedication to the movement for equity, freedom and justice for all. Much of Rev. A. D. King’s contribution to the civil rights’ movement involved organizing, training and mobilizing the youth around the country. He lived his life preaching love as an instrument of change, not war. Mrs. King’s birthday celebration is a tribute to her late husband and the acknowledgement of the contributions of our civil rights veterans. As we celebrate the legacy of the Civil Rights movement, we pass on the torch to a younger generation. The Youth Empowerment AwardsGala is an annual fundraising event, which honors those who have contributed to the A D King Foundation’s commitment to empowering youth through enrichment programs, mentoring, nonviolent strategies and the creation of healthy lifestyles. This year’s honorees include Dr. Joseph Lowery, Rev. Cameron Alexander, Dr. Georgianne Thomas, Robert Blazer, General Adebayo, Ms. Charlene Colburn, & Mrs. Jo Robertson Edwards.
