Bicentennial Celebration

Saturday December 15, 2018 02:00 PM EST
Cost: Free

From the venue:

Two hundred years ago, Illinois’ leaders were working hard to make our wild western territory a state. Hear how they fudged numbers to cinch the deal and met the challenges of shaping a new state government (like finding a place to meet) in this interesting and entertaining talk by Tara McClellan McAndrew, an award-winning history writer and author from Springfield. To celebrate the importance Illinois and Decatur in our nation’s history, we will be hosting programs on the 3rd Saturday of each month and the Library and the Local History Room will feature special displays. Local Historians will speak about different aspects of our city and state, and library displays will provide further information about the topics. The Local History Room will exhibit displays showcasing the evolution of transportation in Illinois, and Decatur’s integral role to the intermodal and railway systems.
