Cost: $10-$12
Molly Nilsson’s eighth studio release, Twenty Twenty, finds the Berlin-based virtuoso masterfully marrying cool detachment with the warmth and familiarity of nostalgia. Nilsson breaks away from the more austere keyboard structure of previous efforts, lending her deep, husky vocals to more lush pop arrangements. “Days Of Dust,” the album’s standout track, employs expansive synth swells reminiscent of Tears for Fears or OMD while maintaining Nilsson’s affinity for the grim. “Like I had just been saved from a burning building of desire/I got back up and I ran right into the fire,” she ruminates with a seemingly wistful wink. — Emily Maxwell
