Alaïa-Adrian: Masters of Cut
From the venue:
Alaïa-Adrian: Masters of Cut explores the work of two designers — Azzedine Alaïa (1935–2017) and Gilbert Adrian (1903–1959) — who were devoted to the art of tailoring. Despite a generational difference, both designers prioritized fit, form, and proportion in their work, transcending fashion trends in favor of timeless, elegant, exceedingly well-made clothing. The exhibition presents the designers’ work in dialogue, examining the techniques that made them successful in their time and relevant in ours. In addition to tailored looks from both designers, Masters of Cut features a selection of Alaïa’s exceptional gowns worn by fashion icons like Grace Jones. SCAD FASH is honored to host the beloved designer’s first posthumous U.S. museum exhibition, nearly 20 years after his last stateside show.
