On February 22, 2021, at 7:30 PM EST, Emory’s Annual Tenenbaum Family Lecture Series in Judaic Studies will explore “The Book Smugglers of the Vilna Ghetto: A Story of Spiritual Resistance,” with guest scholar David E. Fishman of The Jewish Theological Seminary. This lecture, hosted by the Tam Institute for Jewish Studies at Emory University, will be conducted virtually via Zoom.

In Vilna, the city Jews called “The Jerusalem of Lithuania,” a group of ghetto inmates risked their lives to rescue thousands of rare books, documents, and works of art from the Nazis. What did they rescue, and why did they do it?
