The Atlanta NAACP will celebrates Juneteenth, a federal holiday that recognizes the oldest nationally celebrated day for the ending of slavery in the U.S. June 19, 2022, is the official holiday. Juneteenth is traced back to Galveston, Texas in 1865 when the announcement for freedom reached enslaved African Americans two and half years after the Emancipation Proclamation had gone into effect.
