Rents are skyrocketing. But there is a solution: rent control! Join the movement to stop rising rents and fight for housing justice!
Affordable and safe housing is out of reach for many. Rising rents are a major force behind the growing crises of mass evictions, homelessness, and poverty. Even small increases in rent are leaving many people vulnerable. Over 60% of working people in this country are forced to live paycheck to paycheck and many face poverty wages.
In Georgia, landlords can raise the rent by any amount they wish. There is no legal limit or cap on rent. But the government can cap rents! This is called rent control. It should be illegal for landlords to raise rents on tenants by hundreds of dollars overnight. Tenants have little to no legal rights.
Our communities have been turned into playgrounds for the rich. Many of the rental units are owned by mega housing corporations and developers who are pushing long-time residents out of their homes and raking in profits. The laws and politicians of both major parties protect and serve the landlords.
For 39 years, the state of Georgia has maintained a ban on rent control. On July 8, join tenant leaders, grassroots organizations, and working class people from across Georgia who will unite to demand the repeal of the state ban and to fight for housing justice for all. Let’s build a state-wide independent, mass movement to win rent control and more!
