CRITIC’S PICK: Upright bassist Rachel Shaner fronts this oddly named outfit, well-known and respected in their hometown of Savannah although less popular here. Their mix of jazz and pop, evidenced on two studio releases, is stripped down, compelling, idiosyncratic, and cool. This show features fiddle and guitar added to the band which should generate distinctive sparks. Worth a look, and the price is right. — Hal Horowitz

From the venue:

Lulu the Giant is a Savannah-based band started in 2017 by Savannah native Rachael “Lulu” Shaner. Since their sold out debut album release show, they have toured nationally and released 3 albums to much acclaim. A mix of folk, soul, and blue jazz, the band performs mostly as a trio but will be joined by esteemed fiddle player Vito Gutilla for the evening. Ben Keiser, renowned blues guitarist, composer, and original member, will be lending riffs and harmonies alongside Steven Sandifer on percussion and Rachael “Lulu” Shaner on upright bass and lead vocals.
