Piano Duet with Kristi Helfen and Pamela Martin

Kristi Helfen- In 2015 Kristi presented a program at the Georgia Music Teachers Association Conference at Agnes Scott College entitled “Stephen Heller: Beyond The Avalanche” in which she performed several of his lesser-known works. She has also had two articles published in Clavier Companion Magazine (March/April 2011 – as a contributor to a series of articles reviewing current piano methods and May/June 2013 – “Back to School Later in Life: Is It for You?”) In 2006 she was the recipient of the Steinway Piano Galleries GMTA Educator Grant which she used toward her graduate studies. One of Kristi’s more recent projects has been the publication of a beginning piano method book for retirement-aged adults, titled Piano Now: It’s Never Too Late. Kristi currently serves GMTA as VP for Programs and enjoys adjudicating for both competitive and noncompetitive piano events.

Pamela Martin- Ms. Martin is the recipient of several awards including Teacher Enrichment Grants from Steinway Piano Gallery and MTNA. Her lecture/recital presentations include “The Life and Duo Piano Music of Cecile Chaminade,” “Brahms: A Portrait,” (music and drama), and “Women Composers: Paradies, Grondhal, Chaminade, Lily Boulanger, and Dorothy Rudd Moore.” Her audio/visual/lecture program integrating music and visual arts “See with your Ears, Hear with Your Eyes” was presented at the 2013 GMTA conference at the University of West Georgia. Her lecture/recital on "Winifred Hyson: Her Life and Piano Duets” was featured in the Virtual Georgia Music Teachers Association Annual Conference in 2020. The program today is a partial culmination of her latest research project on “Expanding the Repertoire: Music for Piano Four-Hands from the 20th and 21st Centuries.”
