The Deslondes

CRITIC’S PICK: The Deslondes, Kiki Cavazos, The EARL—New Orleans roots music purveyors The Deslondes don’t sound like much else that has emerged from their famous hometown. The quintet’s three previous albums found a subtle yet engaging groove that was hard to pigeonhole, but easy to enjoy. They are multi-instrumentalists and when their vocals harmonize, the often lazy approach feels lived-in and supple as the songs ebb and flow. There’s country, folk, soul, blues, JJ Cale and some Grateful Dead influences but they are so well intertwined with the music it’s tough to pick them out. You’ll likely hear plenty of songs from a new album, Roll It Out, released last week. — Hal Horowitz
