CRITIC’S PICK: The Pink Unicorn, Art Station - All hell breaks loose when a teenager announces she is starting a chapter of the Gay Straight Alliance at her high school in a Conservative Texas town. The girl’s mother and grandmother, both Christians, plus the principal and the preacher, all weigh in to complicate the delicate matter even further. Keena Redding plays the lead role of Trisha, the mother and on top of that, a widow; the production is directed by Miquela Rivers. Playwright Elise Forier Edie began noticing the alienation of members of her local LGBTQ community and wrote the play “in an effort to deal with my anger and fear around these incidents,” she says. Following the matinee shows on Saturday and Sunday, there will be a dialogue with the audience about the ramifications of the play and the issues it addresses. - Kevin C. Madigan

ART Station presents Out Front Theatre Company’s production of the award-winning comedy, The Pink Unicorn. Veteran Atlanta theatre artist Keena Redding plays Trisha, a Christian widow, who must choose sides in her conservative Texas town after her teenage child announces they are gender queer and starting a chapter of the Gay Straight Alliance at the local high school. With sharp wit and humor, this rich and poetic story explores what it means to be a parent and create community in these changing times.
You are invited to attend Community Conversations after the 3pm shows. Come and join encouraging dialogue about uplifting our LGBTQIA and other marginalized communities.
