CRITIC’S PICK: Since forming in 1992 the Arianna String Quartet has established a reputation as one of America’s finest chamber ensembles. Their programs typically include a mix of classical pieces and contemporary works.
For this special concert at KSU’s Bailey School of Music (BSOM), professor and BSOM assistant director Dr. Julia Bullard will join the quartet for a performance of Dvořák’s Op. 97 Quintet for Strings. Written in 1893-94 while the famed Czech composer was in America, the Quintet for Strings is an enchantingly emotive and accessible work that includes what has been described as “shades of Native American folklore, which lend this piece its unique color.”
In addition to touring and recording, members of the Arianna String Quartet serve on the faculty at the University of Missouri-St. Louis as professors of violin, viola, and cello. – Doug DeLoach
