CRITIC’S PICK: Decatur Book Festival, Decatur - At one time it was said to be the biggest festival of its kind in the country, but in recent years the impact of the DBF has decreased somewhat, due mostly to circumstances beyond its control. Undefeated organizers are staging a mighty comeback, however, and the 2024 two-day version boasts a starry lineup with Joyce Carol Oates and Stacey Abrams as headliners. Numerous author panels, readings and signings are scheduled, as well as chef demos, poetry, live music and entertainment, a street fair and family-friendly activities. - Kevin C. Madigan
