Director Biography - SHEA FORMANES
The daughter of a Filipina immigrant and a first-generation Filipino American, Shea Formanes is a writer/filmmaker born and raised in New York City, currently based in Seattle. Deeply rooted in a curiosity-driven family of scientists, nurses, and cartographers, Shea tells sci-fi and fantasy stories about complicated families and women of color, who deal with the aftermath of traumatic events by healing through trust. A recent English Honors graduate and Dean’s Medal nominee from the University of Washington, her works include the queer coming-of-age short film, The Kettle, and the sci-fi/drama stage play, Bahay Kubo. Most recently, she was the 1st AD apprentice in the Action! Narrative Apprenticeship Program at the Northwest Film Forum, and was selected for the highly competitive Above the Line - Education Forum program through Washington Filmworks, which mentors emerging marginalized filmmakers in the Washington area. Shea is currently embarking on her biggest project yet: writing and directing her debut feature film, I Watched Her Grow, which has begun its festival circuit in Spring 2024.
