From the venue:
Shelley Helms Fleishman has a solo show featuring encaustic and mixed media work exploring Atlanta’s urban and natural ecology. Connections between the lush landscapes of native plants and birds hang alongside the human textures of graffiti and multi-layered constructions.
Over 60 pieces of work from three series. Using beeswas sourced from Atlanta neighborhoods, encaustic pieces join fabric and paper print work to illustrate the relationships in our environment. Mixed media pieces use interdependent organic shapes as allusions specific to Atlanta. As a sort of bridge between the two, the last series features large scale birds native to GA caught in a moment where the background is abstract and the local species is the focus.
Shelley’s work has been featured in three solo shows, national publications, and juried group shows. She is honored to be part of permanent collections in hotels, hospitals, restuarants, and the homes of private collectors.
