Dekalb Symphony Orchestra w/ Glenn Memorial UMC Chancel Choir & Emily Brebach

CRITIC’S PICK: English horn and oboe player Emily Brebach joined the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in 2012. A Philadelphia native, Brebach has performed with several orchestras across the U.S., including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Minnesota Orchestra, Kansas City Symphony, and Houston Symphony.
On Tue., Nov. 19, Brebach will perform as guest soloist with the DeKalb Symphony Orchestra (DSO) on two works: Samuel Barber’s Canzonetta for Oboe and Strings and Gaetano Donizetti’s English Horn Concertino. The former work is the middle movement of an unfinished oboe concerto composed in 1978 and first performed in 1981. The latter piece, now considered one of the primary works in the English horn repertoire, was composed by Donizetti at age 20 for his fellow student, Giovanni Catolfi.
Also on this exceptional DSO program are Copland’s Appalachian Spring performed in the original instrumentation for 13-piece chamber orchestra, and a special collaboration of Mozart’s Vesperae Solennes de Confessore with the Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church Chancel Choir. - Doug DeLoach
