Shawn Mullins Birthday Shows

CRITIC’S PICK
Fri.,/Sat. March 14 & 15
Shawn Mullins, Red Clay Music Foundry—Longtime local folk/pop icon Mullins takes the stage for a few birthday shows. The Friday gig is solo which gives him a chance to change the set list at will and chit chat with the audience on a more personal level. That’s followed by a full band performance the next evening, where his three decades of songs are fleshed out with the participation of backing musicians who provide an extra kick to Mullins’ emotional baritone voice and catchy tunes. Fans will want to check out both nights, but either way, you win. Since he hasn’t released new studio music in a while, maybe he’ll introduce some fresh material too. — Hal Horowitz
From the venue:
After a series of indie releases and growing buzz in the Atlanta music scene, Shawn Mullins’ critical and commercial breakthrough came when 1998 Soul’s Core shot him to fame on the strength of Grammy-nominated No. 1 hit, “Lullaby” followed by AAA/Americana No. 1 hit “Beautiful Wreck” from 2006’s 9th Ward Pickin’ Parlor. His song, “Shimmer” was used in promotion of the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney and was included on the Dawson’s Creek soundtrack.
