Underscore_a call for scores

CRITIC’S PICK
Sun., Mar. 9
The fourth annual concert showcasing winners of Underscore --a call for scores, takes place Sun., Mar. 9, at Kopleff Hall on the GSU campus. Organized by Bent Frequency, the competition and concert represent the Atlanta-based new music ensemble two-fold commitment to 1) eliminating institutional and financial barriers long associated with calls for scores and 2) amplifying music by composers of diverse backgrounds, styles and career stages.
The free concert features compositions by six young composers chosen from more than 300 submissions by a panel of guest composers. The works by Sofía Matus Cancino, Ben Gaunt, Thomas Pernnisi, Anuj Bhutani, Kerrith Livengood and Arnau Brichs are as varied as their creators, incorporating traditional and non-traditional instrumentation, spoken word and manipulated vocalization, video and electronics. - Doug DeLoach
