PHOENIX FLIES 2025 | The Beverly Hills Enclave of Buckhead's Garden Hills
From the venue:
The Beverly Hills Subdivision ca 1923 is one of the first sections built in Buckhead’s historic Garden Hills neighborhood. With only two main curvilinear streets, Delmont and Sheridan Drive, it included the land for two of the neighborhood’s institutional landmarks, North Fulton High School (1932- Now the Atlanta International School) and Garden Hills Elementary School (1938).
On this tour you will see the exterior of both schools. You will also see several multiple-unit apartment houses which have been here from the start and contribute to the neighborhood’s national historic register designation due to their significance as exemplary elements in the planning of a self-contained community for both single family and multi-family residences. Included in the mix are the Alhambra Apartments, a terrific example of the “exotic” architectural style popular in the 1920’s, and the Beverly Hills Inn apartments, which were initially built as a boarding house in 1929 for WWI widows. Some say it is haunted! You will also see the remaining elements of a prevailing pattern of distinctive causeways leading to the entrances of five of the apartment homes. Development has overtaken this charming enclave, and much of its remaining structures will soon be gone, as efforts to save them have not been successful.
Please park at Atlanta International School or along street
