CRITIC’S PICK: Love Letters, Synchronicity Theatre - On her Instagram page, Jennifer Levison calls herself a soup diva, entrepreneur, single mama, athlete, kindness advocate and cookbook author. Turns out she’s also an actor. The Souper Jenny maven is appearing at Synchronicity this weekend along with Mitchell Anderson in A.R. Gurney’s two-character play ‘Love Letters.’ The story concerns a 50-year friendship that could have been more than it was, but other relationships got in the way. The late playwright and novelist was described by Playbill as “a word aerialist, a high flyer in the literary big top.” Gurney wrote about 50 plays, but only a few made it to Broadway, such as ‘Sylvia’ and ‘The Dining Room.’

Proceeds from the shows at Synchronicity benefit the Zadie Project, a nonprofit started by Levison that works to combat the hunger of families in Atlanta. - Kevin C. Madigan

Jennifer Levison and Mitchell Anderson in LOVE LETTERS

The play's two characters are a man and a woman who exchange letters, but not marriage vows, in a warm and complicated friendship lasting fifty years. Because they choose others as mates, and live to regret it, Love Letters has a wistful tone: beneath the sparkle expected from Gurney, sadness and remorse.
