An Evening of Georgia Blues, Ormwood Church — Jontavious Willis joins the irrepressible Mudcat for the titular show paying tribute to the Piedmont style of blues once prevalent in the state. It’ll be a low-key, intimate, acoustic set with plenty of background about the music’s origins shared by both musicians who are experts on the genre. Note the early start time. — Hal Horowitz

From the venue:

WRFG Presents An Afternoon of Georgia Blues with Jontavious Willis and Danny "Mudcat" Dudeck on at the Ormewood Church Sanctuary on Sunday May 4th @ 4pm.

GA musician, Jontavious Willis’, mission is to infuse today’s blues with the spirit of the past. Jontavious uses his unique sound—a synthesis of his Georgia heritage and reverence for traditional blues—to get the world dancing again. He is a Grammy-nominated musician and songwriter who performs original, toe-tapping tunes in the style of Delta, Piedmont, Texas, and Gospel Blues.

"When I heard him play, I said to myself: this is how the blues, as I know it, is going to stay alive. Jontavious Willis is the first blues musician I've seen in over thirty years that I would pay to see - and he's only 20 years old! I've seen the best. Jontavious is the real deal." [Paul Oscher, noted blues musician who has toured with Muddy Waters, Louisiana Red and countless others]

Danny “Mudcat” Dudeck

Mudcat is an internationally known gospel and bluesman continuing the traditions of the early blues pioneers while adding his own Mudcat special sauce. “Whether performing solo, leading a smokin' band or a tight, one-off jam session with a founding father or a group of novices, his soulful and emotive delivery evokes images of the hard times that fed the early blues pioneers.  And Mudcat's Bayou-baked, chicken-party revues can make even the most jaded music fan happy to be blue.” (Creative Loafing)
