Groove to the sounds of Okorie "OkCello" Johnson at SCADshow performance
From the venue:
Atlanta-based cellist and songwriter Okorie "OkCello" Johnson integrates cello performance, live-sound-looping, improvisation, and storytelling into his musical artistry and original compositions — where classical, jazz, EDM, reggae, and funk music collide. Johnson’s music is inspired by the exploration of African diasporic melodies and narratives and their intersection with people's perceptions and assumptions about the classical and European nature of the cello. Join Johnson at SCADshow for an unforgettable evening with one of Atlanta’s very own.
OkCello has been featured on Tamron Hall, is a recipient of the Kennedy Center Office Hours Artist Residency, and was accepted as a sound installation artist for the Democratic Republic of Congo’s 2022 Biennale. He is a co-composer and performer of a cello concerto Liminal, which premiered in February of 2023 with The Georgia Symphony Orchestra. He has also scored the award-winning documentary Imperfect Alibi and the Suzi Bass Award-winning children’s theater show Head to Toe.
Tickets for the event are $10 for SCAD Card holders and outside students with a valid school ID; $15 for seniors, military, and alumni; and $25 for the general public. For more information on the performance or questions about tickets, email scadshow@scad.edu.
