Real Women Have Curves by Josefina Lopez, Merely Players Presents — This under-the-radar theatrical group in Doraville has been staging some absorbing shows of late, with more on the way. ‘Real Women Have Curves’ by Mexican-American playwright Josefina Lopez takes place in a small sewing factory in East LA owned by Estela, who is living in the United States illegally. Her co-workers include her mother and sister, and all have their issues and aspirations. The play is dedicated to the Latina immigrant community and its goal is “honoring real bodies, fierce strength, and women's unity.” — Kevin C. Madigan

Set in a tiny sewing factory in East L.A., Real Women Have Curves is a heartfelt and humorous coming-of-age story about five Latina women navigating life, work, and womanhood. As they stitch garments under a looming deadline, they share dreams, secrets, and struggles—challenging beauty standards, embracing their bodies, and finding strength in sisterhood.
Told through the eyes of Ana, an 18-year-old with college dreams, the play celebrates resilience, culture, and the power of women lifting each other up. With sharp wit and unapologetic honesty, Real Women Have Curves reminds us that every body is beautiful—and every voice matters.
