From the venue:

Come unwind, join community and let creativity flow under the canopy of west Atlanta’s old growth forests. Participants will be led by creative thinkers and poets in a workshop embracing how experiences in natural environments connect us to creative expressions, increased literacy skills, and a higher appreciation for the world around us. Each workshop has a different theme and facilitator, allowing participants to experience literacy in a new way.

Join educator and poet, Eder J. Williams McKnight in a workshop exploring how the skills of reading can connect us to nature and invite creative expression. We will apply what we know about literacy to experience nature in a fresh way. We will then use those observations to create poems, writings, even sketches inspired by our relationship to the forest. We will end with a reflection and celebratory share out.

Eder J. Williams-McKnight is an educator and poet who elevates deep learning and transformational experiences. She is the Creative in Residence at the Klingenstein Center of Teachers College, Columbia University. Her work in education has included leading change in schools, competency based learning, experience-based learning, diversity and inclusion initiatives, and civic engagement. As a poet, she has collaborated with visual and dance artists to create multimedia works, and has been published in art books. Eder is interested in how the poetic mindset expands the way we read place, people, systems, and ourselves, and how it frees us to authentically connect, serve, and make impact.
