Sputnik Iron Pour
CRITIC’S PICK
Sat., Oct. 4
If you’ve never attended an iron pour, you’re missing a fascinating feat of human ingenuity and engineering dating back at least 3,000 years.
Tomorrow at Railroad Earth (RRE) near Emory Village, attendees can show up by 5 p.m., purchase a sand mold about the size of a hardbound book, carve a design into the sand and watch a river of molten iron transform that design into a work of art. It’s way fun and seriously easy.
Meanwhile, in the RRE backyard compound, alchemy of a musical kind will feature Joe Choo & Friends, ambient soundscaping by Trotter/Jorgenson/King, and a performance by Thump & Voice Ensemble. The headliner is Jeff Crompton’s Relay Station featuring the magically delightful singing of Monique Osorio in the basement sound studio. – Doug DeLoach
